THE REVIEW SEPTEMBER 8, 2020: 

At the end of today's trading session on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), a total of 10,284,400 shares in 1,098 deals, corresponding to a market value of KES 177,661,283.00, were traded. Compared with the previous NSE trading day (Monday, September 7), today's data shows 43% decline in volume, 65% decline in turnover, but 21% improvement in deals. The current NSE market capitalization is KES 2.06 trillion.

In the aggregate, 46 NSE listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 26 losers. Nairobi Securities Exchange led the gainers with 5.46% share price appreciation closing at KES 8.50 per share, followed by BOC Kenya (+4.27%), Housing Finance Company (+3.63%) and Uchumi Supermarket (+3.33%). On the losing side, Standard Group came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at KES 20.25 per share, followed by Umeme (-7.41%), Express Kenya (-6.59%) and STANLIB Fahari Income REIT (-6.14%). Absa Bank Kenya Plc recorded the highest volume of 4.1 million traded shares, followed by Safaricom (1.65m), Kenya Power & Lighting Co. (714,000) and Equity Group Holdings (586,200).

Regarding the performance of NSE market indices, the benchmark NSE All Share Index (NASI) shed 0.65 (-0.47%) points to close at 136.93, representing a 1-week loss of 2.37%, a 4-week gain of 5.95%, but an overall year-to-date loss of 17.72%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NSE 20 Share Index (+0.05%; +2.26% 1WK; -30.28% YTD), NSE 25 Share Index (-0.64%; -2.4% 1WK; -22.79% YTD), FTSE NSE Kenya 25 Index (-0.57%; -2.71% 1WK; -20.76% YTD), and FTSE NSE Kenya 15 Index (-0.87%; -3.3% 1WK; -23.19% YTD).
